The Cobb-Douglas Production Function Revisited

چکیده
Charles Cobb and Paul Douglas in 1928 used data from the US manufacturing sector for 1899-1922 to introduce what is known today as Cobb-Douglas production function that has been widely economic theory decades. We employ R programming language fit formulas parameters of generated by authors recently via bi-Hamiltonian approach same set utilized Douglas. conclude output elasticities total factor productivity are compatible with original data.

Fitting of Cobb-Douglas Production Functions: Revisited
The set of Cobb-Douglas production functions is usually fitted by first linearizing the models through logarithmic transformation and then applying method of least squares. However, this procedure is valid only when the underlying assumption of multiplicative error-terms is justified. Unfortunately, this assumption is rarely satisfied in practice and accordingly, the results obtained are of dou...
متن کاملThe Cobb-Douglas Production Function: An Antipodean Defence?
In this paper a re-examination of the original time-series data sets used by Professor Douglas and associated researchers to establish the existence of an aggregate production function is undertaken. Particular attention is paid to the issue of whether the data provide deductive support for the ‘Laws of Production’ as claimed by Douglas (1948). Various statistical methods are used to analyse th...
متن کاملAdjustment Costs and the Identication of Cobb Douglas Production Functions
Cobb Douglas production function parameters are not identi ed from crosssection variation when inputs are perfectly exible and chosen optimally, and input prices are common to all rms. We consider the role of adjustment costs for inputs in identifying these parameters in this context. The presence of adjustment costs for all inputs allows production function parameters to be identi ed, even i...
متن کامل“a Theory of Production”1 the Estimation of the Cobb-douglas Function: a Retrospective View
As Solow once remarked to me, we would not now be concerned with the question [the existence of the aggregate production function] had Paul Douglas found labor's share of American output to be twenty-five per cent and capital's share seventy-five instead of the other way around [Fisher, 1969, 572]. I hope that someone skilled in econometrics and labor will audit and evaluate my critical finding...
متن کاملA Regional Water Optimal Allocation Model Based on the Cobb-Douglas Production Function under Multiple Uncertainties
To optimize the water distribution of three industries based on the water demand prediction under multiple uncertainties, a fuzzy credibility-constrained interval two-stage stochastic programming (FCITSP) model base on the Cobb-Douglas production (CD) function was developed. The CD-FCITSP model integrated fuzzy credibility-constrained programming (FCP), an interval two-stage stochastic programm...
